Nick and I are so obsessed with music it's ridiculous really. We have mountains of CD's and are always buying each other more at any occasion or oppertunity. We are huge fans of the Tragically Hip and have seen them in concert more times then I can count. We have gone to Toronto for the Sars concert and Moncton to see the Stones to name a few. We are like kids right before a big concert. But I have noticed as we have aged the last few years....it's harder and harder for us to get ourselves going before a concert now. Especially one right in the middle of the work week. Or even worse one at the beginning of the work week. But last night Nick and I shuffled, no dragged ourselves to Halifax to see Kathleen Edwards. We saw her first at the Sars Concert in 2003 and loved her. We listen to her CD the whole way to TO. We love her folky, indie country feel.
Well on the way to Halifax last night, we were yawning, rubbing our eyes....we looked like grandmas up passed our bedtime. I said to him, what has happened to us....are we now an old married couple?? I said we used to be able to do this party, go to concerts and then get up in the morning and go to work. He said I know......we must be getting old.
I wasn't feeling well had a headache...and was nursing a cold....but we pushed on.
The Kathleen Edwards concert was at the Seahorse Tavern On Argyle in Hali....and I had heard about the Seahorse before ( all bad stuff) .....but it was not a bad place...it was in the basement of the Economy Shoe shop and was pretty cool place. It felt like an old Halifax Bar that had been there since the beginning....it was in the bowels of Halifax sort of speak. But it was cool.
At about 8:30 we saw Kathleen Edwards just sort of walk into the bar....Nick was like...holy crap she's just walking around....she was in the bathroom at the same time as me.....but I couldn't speak to her...I thought the bathroom was kind of an ackward place to talk...Nick was so mad at me...he said i should have struck up a conversation...I however thought it was the wrong place for that. He said I missed my oppertunity. Then I started to think....shit I did...
But anyway arounf 9pm she came on and started singing...and wow....she was amazing...she played accoustic guitar, electric guitar, violin and harmonica....and she sang. She was incredible, the talent she has just blows me away. She played songs on her debut albulm "failure" and then songs off her new albulm "asking for flowers" it was amazing.
Well at the end of the concert she said she would be hanging around for a while after and that people could feel free to come up and chat with her. Well I said to myself....self....you will get an autograph. So I went over and purchased her very cool artist made poster....and waited.
It was hilarious...everone was waiting out front for her...but she sort of came out via the stage...and just practically ran into me. So I introduced myself and asked if she would mind signing my poster and she said she would love to.
She was so nice and down to earth. I love when musicians you really admire are everything in person that you precieve them to be!! It was awesome!!
Nick and I were stoked the whole way home! wow check out her website....she's going to be super famous someday....even more so then she is now.
